The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) announced $43 million in fire prevention grants to fund 66 fire prevention projects across the state.

ABC 10 reported that the funds are part of an effort to prevent catastrophic fires, such as the Camp Fire, by enabling and supporting local organizations to address the risk in their communities, such as fuel reduction, wildfire planning and fire prevention education.

“This is a huge investment in helping reduce our overall fire risk, but it’s really important, especially as we move into the spring months that homeowners start doing their part,” CAL FIRE Assistant Deputy Director Daniel Berlant said. “These projects are not going to stop every single fire.”

The Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund for California Climate Investments provided $33 million of the available funds, and $10 million was provided by CAL FIRE Community Wildfire Prevention Program.
